This trail links Argentière to Chamonix on the north side at a height of around 200 m above the valley.
From the centre of Argentiere, take the Chemin de la Moraine which goes under the railway line. Then join the Chemin des Rambles.
Take the path on the right leading into the forest (this is a cross-country ski trail in winter, then cross the Arveyron, the torrent that flows down from the glacier. Carry on down Chemin de la Glaciere and go through the tunnel under the ski piste. Cross underneath the Lognan cable car and leave the forest for a little while above La Rosiere. You will pass the ruins of the Maison Forte, one of the oldest buildings in the valley. Cross under the ski tow and ignore the path that goes up to la Croix de Lognan to your left. The Petit Balcon remains at fairly low altitude here, passing through the villages of Les Chosalets and Les
Grassonnets. The path then goes up and down for a while, taking you to the edge of the forest and the Lavancher Plateau. Take the road up to the top of the village or better still, follow Chemin de la Coutire which joins the road close to the last hotel.
Carry on up the hill for 100 m to the point where two footpaths branch off: the first one goes down to Les Tines; take the second one on the left, which is a wide cross-country ski track descending gently at first and cutting through the forest to the village of Les Bois via the Cote du Piget.
